SUNSET

Walking from one end
of the village to the other
takes hardly more than 10 minutes.
Since I came to live here,
I have never walked like that by day.
Sometimes at night, half closing
my eyes, I am walking
past broken houses, one after the other.
Ruins, encircled by newly erected
factories from every side.
Wish I could meet
a young student returning from school.
Sometimes at sunset,
I stand in a daze for a while
at the edge of the village.

SONNENUNTERGANG

Von einem Ende

bis zum anderen Ende des Dorfes

sind es nur ungefähr 10 Minuten.

Seit ich hier wohne

bin ich nie untertags diese Strecke gegangen.

Manchmal am Abend mach ich

die Augen halb zu und geh weiter,

an lauter zerstörten Häusern vorbei.

Ruinen, und neu errichtete

Fabriken, die anrücken von allen Seiten.

Ich würde gerne

einen Schüler treffen, auf dem Weg nach Hause.

Wenn die Sonne untergeht, bleib ich manchmal

stehen am Dorfrand,

einfach nur schauen.
