Liu Aofu
ALL MY LIFE
When I think of my father
I will always remember him
in my childhood,
a certain night in early summer
he took me
as frogs called from all sides
to spear loaches
in paddy fields.
That night I thought
we’d catch a lot
but in the end
we didn’t
get even one of them.
But I didn’t complain,
that night the loaches
of the whole planet
had all disappeared.
