WHITE HAIR I GREW UP WITH – 闫永敏 Yan Yongmin

WHITE HAIR I GREW UP WITH

My colleague is five years older,
when she discovered white hairs on her head
she was astonished, called it scary.
I told her I had that since I was small,
and boys in school were talking about it.
I heard yellow chrysanthemums could be a cure,
grew them in a pot,
carried them outside into the sun
and returned them at night so they wouldn’t freeze.
In fall
I cut the full-grown chrysanthemums,
spread them around on my pillow,
then a towel over them.
I slept on them every night,
with no result.
I grew up with white hair
all the way until now.
I think when I’m old
my white hair
will be just as white as when I was a kid.
