Maybe ten years ago,
we were drinking & talking,
he said though we are living
in a prison,
there is quite a bit of exercise.
You young guys have to learn
to seek joy in sorrow.
Today he sings praises
of his native country,

he’s in a prison.

anything like that.

PASSING THROUGH THE NORTH GATE WITH A MOUTH FULL OF VINEGAR

Got off the bus,
into the supermarket,
didn’t know what to buy,
bought a bottle of cheap vinegar.
Paid,
opened the bottle,
drank a sip,
wanting to swallow.
Then I remembered,
holding white vinegar in your mouth
can clean up the gums
and stains on the teeth.
So with that sip
in my mouth,
I walked back home
through the north gate of our compound.
The guard over there
likes to greet me and say a few words.
He saw
I looked strange,
so he asked what was wrong.
But I still had
my mouth full of vinegar,
so I didn’t explain
any
thing.

​下了公交
​我拐进超市
​不知道买啥
​就买了一瓶白醋
​付完钱
​打开瓶盖
​喝了一口
准备咽下时
​才想起
​口含白醋
​可以清除
​牙齿的污垢
我就含着
那口白醋
从小区北门
往回走
平时喜欢给我
打招呼的保安
看见我
奇怪的样子
问这是怎么了
但我含着
一口醋
就没给他解释
这么
多
