LIGHT MUSIC

there is a beautiful light on my balcony,
orange somehow like rotten leaves,
halloween faces slowly crumbling,
no longer faces except when you know
it is a foggy day but life is beautiful,
people outside are blessedly few.
sometimes you’re not sure if they’re male or female,
farther away, they’re just a figure.
sometimes there are lights from faraway cars,
most often there’s nothing.
we live behind the new railway station,
south of the center, bricklayer’s district.
south railway station, south or southeast,
freight cars repairs, probably rabbits,
rabbits remain beyond the park
where they’re still building.
all this space belonged to the railways,
a railway man still heads the country,
socialist party, born in this district.
a railway manager,
good thirty years now
they wanted managers leading the socialists,
managers living in union housing
in the first district.
still people vote for them,
there is a big gruesome alternative,
helped by the socialists
through advertising
in the free newspapers.
railway man realised that
thirty years late at least.
there is a beautiful light on my balcony,
orange wildflowers and rotten stuff,
beautiful things come out next year.
