Papa hat oft gesagt, jeder Mensch
soll in der Tasche so viel Geld haben
wie für ein Küken.
Wenn es dir unterwegs passiert,
dass du eins tottrittst,
musst du es ersetzen.
In meiner Erinnerung
war Omis Tod
wie ein kleines Küken
unter unseren Füßen.
Papa und Mama
haben überall Geld ausgeborgt,
nicht mehr als fünf Yuan zusammenbekommen.

Why did our ancestors
give today
give our departed
such a pure and clean word?
Could it be? Could what we call
the nether world
actually be more bright and clear?
