CANNOT SPEAK HIS NAME –

Xiang Lianzi
CANNOT SPEAK HIS NAME

something like expressive aphasia
we all have a problem with naming names

cannot say the time
we can only stutter
beat around the bush
a clock
turning hands

cannot say cause and effect
just hold it back
say retribution

cannot say the place
just say it was crawling with people
and mysterious creatures
with a dead body

cannot say the sea
only
salute

all of july
all the world saluting to him
we cannot say his name

SUMMER EVENING

summer evening:
moon is a white soccer ball
dangling over the park
it dissolves
in the twilight
comes out in the dark
with cicadas
we are very very lucky
apricot dumplings
wine
we are healthy
wish everyone
had a good moon

LIU XIAOBO POEM (excerpt)

My love, time to get up.
The bridge towards the abyss will collapse.
You are going to burst, please hold on to my will.
Doubt begins from the stone of sisyphus,
faith begins from the house key you lost.
I hand all my panic and hate
over to you
alone,
so I can raise my head high
one more time
until the darkest hour.

From a poem by Liu Xiaobo (1997), adddressed to his wife Liu Xia.
Circulated on July 6, 2017, while Liu is being treated for liver cancer in Shenyang.

Translated by Martin Winter

All meine Panik und meinen Hass
geb ich dir, dir allein.
So kann ich noch einmal,
ganz kostbar,
meinen Kopf hoch halten

DREAM #1091 – Yi Sha

Yi Sha
DREAM 1091

three dreams in one night
one after the other
three blossoms opened
on the same topic:
violence

I dream of two female journalists
from Chinese Business View
they used to interview me all the time
but then I beat up a male reporter
because he stuffed sweet crumbs into my mouth
when I didn’t want it

I dream of a real
Japanese devil
seems very friendly
but there’s no need for mobilization
I want him dead
though those war films haven’t fooled me
I know killing him won’t be easy
I am preparing a saw

I dream of my roommates
at college
we move into a new place together
it’s an apartment with bathroom
I am taking a pee
someone kicks me from behind
I turn around and kick him
to the ground
almost killing him

MARIA RESTITUTA KAFKA

MARIA RESTITUTA KAFKA

she must be the most important statue
in this great cathedral
but she’s in the back
in a side room
you can go in for prayer

as long as you’re in there
you’re no gaping tourist
only god sees you gaping

at first you see jesus
you don’t want to say much at all
although no one stops you
from taking a photo

the room feels more ancient
and more contemporary
than the cathedral at large

how old was she
when the nazis killed her
at the big courthouse
here in vienna?

she was a sister, a nurse
came from husovice, brno
grew up in vienna
and served in mödling

living churches have modern things

it’s not in your face here
but it fits well

she must be the most important person by far

there is one in kosice
next to an entrance
you notice her right away

thousands of jews in kosice
over fifty-thousand here in vienna

what is god
what is prayer
what is a person
what is a saint

go with god

IRON MAN – 吴雨伦

Wu Yulun
I HAVE SEEN IRON MAN’S SOUL

one guy in our dormitory bought us a model
made in usa
must be 30 centimeters
silver all over
golden shine, lines very clear
you can take him for real

he has to stand on our table
dirt all around him
coke-bottles, mcdonalds
fruit bags, rice box, waste paper
sprite cans. one heap of chaos.

he has to live in our garbage
can’t see his way out
flies round his ears
no wonder his fists are so tight
his face speaks of wrath
though he can do nothing

but this cannot go on forever
one day
his soul will break out
under the flesh
of the steel

one pitch-dark night
his angry eyes
will burn to cinders
squalor and chaos
whatever holds him
burn everything

Han Dong
TV-CAMEL

on the TV-screen I saw a camel,
soft and fuzzy, getting up from the sand.
tall, soft and fuzzy camel
had just been sleeping. the lamplight,
the people disturbed him. they cuddled him
and he went down on his knees again.
my heart became very fuzzy and furry.
just like the camel was not in the TV-set,
like it was real.
of course it was a real camel.

CHINESE WISDOM – 馬非 – CHINESISCHE WEISHEIT

Ma Fei
CHINESE WISDOM

what’s to show off about writing a lot?
writing not very much is something to show off.

what’s to show off about writing little?
writing only one poem is something to show off.

what’s to show off about writing one poem?
not writing any is something to show off.

what’s to show off about not writing poetry?
not talking poetry is something to show off.

what’s to show off about not talking poetry?
never talk, show one finger, that’s something to show off.

CHINESISCHE WEISHEIT
