YAN JIN’S HOLIDAYS

Yan Jin was in the army in Shandong,
he had a one-week holiday.
He had figured it out,
altogether two days from Shandong to Xi’an
and from Xi’an to his home town in northern Shaanxi.
Going back to his unit, also two days.
So he could stay at home for three days.
In Xi’an,
at the north bus station
they screwed him and took him to Fugu
at the most northern tip of Shaanxi, 300 kilometres from home.
When he got to his family,
he was four days into his holiday
and could stay home just one day.

MYTHEN AUS NORD-SHAANXI:李岩 Li Yan

MYTHEN AUS NORD-SHAANXI

Nachdem Mo Yan den Nobelpreis bekommen hat,
haben Leute in Lu Yaos Heimatort gesagt,
Lu Yao sei gestorben.
Gestorben?

VICE-PRESIDENT SAID, SPREAD A STALL – 李海泉 Li Haiquan

Li Haiquan
VICE-PRESIDENT SAID, SPREAD A STALL ON THE GROUND

Apartment holders of Gaodang compound
(most from North Shaanxi)
go to housing management and demand
to grant them a spot by the gate
for milking goats.
And so at the gate the wondrous sight
of a truck appears holding five or six goats
with bulging udders.
Mornings and evenings apartment people
wait in long lines
for the goats to arrive.
The ones at the end
find in their bowls
freshly squeezed blood.
