GOD AND MOON AT MY READING – MOND BEI DER LESUNG

MOON AT MY READING

at my reading I was a star
I did nor see the moon
the moon was huge and round and white
bettina told me
a fat sow in hiding
when she came at dusk
my daughter would not let me smoke
this one cigarette
we saw the moon next day in the evening
before going to bed
summer savings time
or whatever it’s called
will be over soon

fett hinter wolken
meine tochter hat aufgepasst
dass ich nicht rauche.
am nächsten abend
haben wir ihn zusammen gesehen.
nächste woche
ist endlich winterzeit.

GOTT

gott ist der staub auf der erd
im all unter menschen und käfern
god’s in the dust on earth in space
under bugs and other people
god’s the steeple
the chaser
water of life and all that
god is the cat
or the rat
length and the breadth
length of breath
got ist tot
was ist got
is it goth
people who try & fail to be german
gott ist im lot
in seiner stadt
god is in lot and his wife
in their town
in their flight
certainly not in dublin rules
rather in
every other thing
over there,
here, anywhere
everyone who helps
who says no
to glib politicians
takes a stand
not in the apes who crow for deutschland
god is the dust, rust and the whiskey
chests and nuts, snowballs
bluster of autumn
blushing of spring
small crazy thing

dust crazy things?

guess I should vacuum

ICH SCHLAF SCHON IM STEHEN – 许立志 Xu Lizhi

Keine Krankheit, kein Urlaub, kein Fernbleiben.
Niemals später aufstehn, niemals früher gehen.
Steh eisern am Fließband mit fliegenden Händen.
So viele Tage, so viele Nächte,
ich schlaf schon im Stehen.

Tang Guo

BAUMAUGEN

baumaugen
wachsen nicht nur unter der stirn
(es ist nicht kulturell festgelegt
wieviele ein baum haben darf
also hat er ebenso viele
wie er grad mag)

sie passen auch nicht zueinander
(es gibt keine muster
sie stellen sich nicht in ein rechteck)
und strahlen auch nicht
(sie blinzeln eher
wie alte hündinnen
ihnen rinnen die tränen)

sie haben wimpern
(ein kurzer vorhang,
kauf nicht soviel stoff)
und schlaf in den augen
warten auf käfer, die machen sauber
(vögel oben am nasenrücken
putzen die käfer weg)

baumaugen
größer als kuhaugen
deshalb erschrecken sie
kinder, die spielen
in bäumen verstecken

DREAMING OF LIVING INSIDE A DREAM

Tr. MW, June 2014

Published in EPIPHANY magazine, fall 2014. Go on, look for this great Chinese Dream! I spent October 2014 at Vermont Studio Center with Yi Sha, editor of the daily New Century Poetry series Chun Sue is one of the most well-known figures within this huge independent circle of poets.

Chun Sue Avenue of Eternal PeaceChun Sue
MORNING, AVENUE OF ETERNAL PEACE

Little Brother says: dad, Avenue of Eternal Peace
take a good look
This is the road you walked for over 20 years
I am sitting with Papa and Little Brother
I am almost crying
Finally I know
why I like the Avenue of Eternal Peace
Slowly the car passes the Military Museum
and the red walls of Zhongnanhai
and Xinhua Gate
Papa is small now he fits in an ash box
sitting between us
doesn’t take up much space
We pass the Gate of Heavenly Peace
and I see him
He stands on the square
watching us while we’re passing

Why was it so hard to write about you
You’re the son of a peasant
I was born in a village
I am also the child of a peasant
I put on army songs for you all night
Crying my heart out —
I like all that too.
